Hooking Learners Early On

Last weekend, I was sifting through a thrift store (my happy place) when I came across a small book titled Games for All Occasions, published in 1923. Its cloth cover was frayed, its pages yellowed, and its ideas delightfully human. Inside were detailed descriptions of parlor games designed to engage groups of people—neighbors, classmates, even strangers—without screens, slides, or scripts.

📚 As I read, I couldn’t help but draw a line between these century-old amusements and today’s challenge in learning design: capturing attention early and keeping it.
